People find building Websites is fun, will you? Part 2

This article continues on from the earlier article.
I believe that knowing how to build websites is a key skill and expertise that many business owners should consider when looking at ways to grow their businesses fast.

This focuses on another internet based business that you could get involved with. This is related to the web domain business. Every single domain name out there is registered with a Domain registrar. I ask the question, could this be the perfect Internet based business?

Watch the video above to find out if this is something for you.

Did you know that Google has brought the abc.xyz domain?

Notice that it ends with .xyz, not .com

I got so excited when I heard this, that I purchased 2 xyz domains using Domain Cost Club Member’s pricing. This was during a special promotion period (there do be some really good deals if you time it right). This meant that I saved over $28 in the process using my Domain Cost Club Membership. That to me is a good deal. 🙂

Did you know that General Motors owns the generalmotors.green domain?

Notice that it ends with .green, not .com

More and more of the new domain extension names (the bit after the dot) are available and this is adding a lot of choice to the domain name industry that was not there before. These are becoming more popular with many people and many businesses and many organisations. I imagine within a few short years from now will become very widespread. This is my personal opinion and is also the opinion of many people in the industry.

Some very interesting January 2015 Statistics

These days, many people are online. There were over 3,000,000,000 internet users by January 2015. In January 2015, there were over 876,000,000 websites out there. The websites that you see on the internet have a domain name associated with it. The domain name is registered with a domain name registrar. There is a transaction to register a domain name. Money changed hands when very single one of those domain names was registered and again every time they are renewed. Money also changes hands when a domain name is moved from one registrar to another registrar.

  1. Hi, David,

A very interesting article about all the new domain extensions that are becoming available. Also, I have never heard of the Domain Cost Club, but their idea seems very innovative.

Just two questions concerning the new extensions.

    1) Won’t it take time for these extensions to become popular within the search engines?

    2) As I imagine it will take time, how would this affect the ranking of websites?

I have been under the impression that it is best to have a dot com extension as this helps to rank your site higher in the search engines.

    Lis.

    • Hi Lis,

I agree totally that the Domain Cost Club idea is very innovative. 🙂

Domain Cost Club also sell dot com and dot net domains.

The new top level extension names are becoming more popular.

You might have heard that Google’s new parent company Alphabet brought the abc.XYZ domain in the last few days.

Regarding your questions, I would think that the search engines already know about these new extensions. If they do not, they are not doing a good job. It is general knowledge that ICANN have authorised a list of hundreds of new extensions. I also think it is the content inside of the website that helps rankings.

Currently all things being equal a dot com domain would have a higher value in the eyes of potential visitors. However I am not so sure that this will be the case a year from now, or two years or three years. Remember that it is the content of the website that is king.

My personal take is to still get a dot com if you can and also consider the new extension names as well. They may be a better match. You can guess what burger.melbourne do without even visiting the site. Nothing to do with me by the way, they just provide me with a good example.

I did run out and got myself 2 XYZ domains when I heard that Google’s parent company purchased abc.XYZ as I think Google may know something. 🙂

When I got my 2 XYZ domains, I spent a whopping $2.48 ($1.24 each) in the process because Domain Cost Club had a special deal for Domain Cost Club members.

      Cheers,

      David

  2. Hi David,

Thank you for your prompt reply. I will take your advice and stick with dot-com domains for now but also go for the new extensions as well. I agree that content is king, but I was also thinking about how people search for things online. However, you have answered my questions.

I will rewatch the video on the Domain Cost Club as it is sounding very appealing. 🙂

  3. Great article. I didn’t know that Google bought the .xyz domain. I guess that now would be a great time to begin to buy domains with that extension. After all, google is synonymous with the internet! Thanks for the heads up. Great advice!

I’m addition, the info on the domain cost club was really great. I like having the opportunity to perhaps become an affiliate of this great program.
